Wishing all fotopagers a happy and successful 2007

Christmas came and went. Quiet and uneventful but also relaxing. A stormy end to 2006 here in the UK. Wet and blustery in London last night but an absolutely beautiful day to start the year this morning. This seems to symbolise the way things have been for a lot of people I know. 2006 was a turbulent year. 2007 will be brighter?

It stayed fine and bright all day but as soon as darkness fell the rain began again. It's also very mild and not really like winter at all. Or perhaps this is what winter is like now that global warming has taken hold? And mustn't complain about the rain as it replenishes the groundwater supplies to ease the drought situation in the summer.

These pics were taken in my local park - Waterlow Park, Highgate - this morning. Quite something, these Victorian philanthropists.

Dressed trees

View all 6 photos...
It was a beautiful blue sky day today, such a change after all the rain. Just had to go up to the park to try out the Fuji. Discovered all these dressed trees. Part of a project done by local primary schools who had been learning about the trees in the park this term. Each tree was dressed by a different school.

Nikon News:
When I logged in to the trace repair site yesterday morning the status was awaiting repair. Imagine my surprise when I logged in in the evening and it said "Repair completed". So looks like the Nikon may be on its way home soon - to meet its new little brother Fuji (which begs the question - Are cameras male or female? Answers on a postcard... or comment below). Anyway, I just hope they won't be jealous of each other...

what a nice and colourful idea in winter. For me cameras are female and my new MacBook Pro is male, he is my 'Silver Boy' Sat 9-Dec-2006 16:10

Christmas Cactus

View all 6 photos...
My Christmas Cactus certainly lives up to its name. Every December without fail it bursts out in a riot of pink blossom that lasts until into the New Year. Guaranteed to brighten the greyest of winter days when I open the bathroom curtains in the morning.

Hey my Fuji is fun but for those who are interested here's an update on my Nikon:
It's now officially in the system and I can trace the progress of the repair online. The letter they sent says the estimated date for completion of repairs is 21 Dec - depending on nature of repair and availibility of parts... So looks like it's going to be festive Fuji pix this Christmas. Also no indication as yet as to whether the Nikon repair is going to be free of charge. It better had be.

wow, Jenny, these blossoms are fantastic. Mine has some blossoms too but not so much. I have one with orange colours too. I will bring you a cutting next time to London or you take it with you when you will visit me in Trier! Sat 9-Dec-2006 16:03

Phone boxes

My Nikon is still at the menders. I know it arrived as I was tracking the package but haven't heard from them yet. Will have to phone tomorrow...

Meanwhile I've bought a Fuji FinePix secondhand on Ebay. Fun to have a camera that fits in your pocket! It's only 3mp but seems quite versatile. Haven't had much time to try it out yet as only got it yesterday and been at work most of the time since. Most of the pics I've taken have been from the bus in the dark. (That's my excuse anyway).

these cameras are not bad i am always surprised how good the macro shots are with the Canon Ixus 400, my first digital camera. Sat 9-Dec-2006 16:07

It rained today...

... not all the time but quite a lot so in keeping with the weather here's one I took the other week from the bus on Euston Rd (when my camera was working).

But the good news is it seems Nikon will probably repair it free of charge. I have to take it in to a registered repairer first.

And the bad news is that meanwhile I'm without a camera. I'm tempted to get a compact just to keep me going. I wandered into a few shops on Tottenham Court Rd today and managed to resist buying an Olympus mju 5mp which would have set me back £140 incl. 256 card (would have been £100 with tiny card).

On the other hand maybe I should splash out on a camera phone. My current Nokia doesn't have a cam. I fancy the Samsung slider with a 3mp cam.

What I should really do is get on with my PhD. Once that's out of the way I'm thinking of treating myself to a DSLR. Too much of a distraction to do that at the moment though.

Meantime on here I think I'll just keep posting from the archive.

Jenny, thank you so much for your information that my pic is editor's choice. I wouldn't have noticed it otherwise I hope you will have soon back your camera. But it is not na new Nikon? Wed 29-Nov-2006 13:29

The world as my camera sees it...

Disaster has struck

Yesterday my camera stopped focusing in the middle of taking the pics at our Buddhist centre opening. It actually temporarily righted itself and I was able to get a few shots. But now it just sees the world as a blur...

Oddly, Click, a fellow Coolpix 5700 user, had mentioned this problem to me the other day so I was slightly prepared. I've now checked it out on the web and found
info from Nikon
that suggests I might be able to get it repaired free of charge. so I've sent them an email and hoping.

I feel lost without my camera
What shall I do? Perhaps it's a sign that I should be spending more time finishing my endless PhD?

Meanwhile, I leave you all with the question Is it Art?

hope you will get new camera/can fix the camera and finish your Phd, anyway...its so amazing picture...eeffect so cool.. Tue 21-Nov-2006 10:54

I couldn't resist...

... the chance to take this self-portrait in a 'mirror-window' in Holborn this evening.

It's a bit blurred because it was dark and I couldn't use the flash so the shutter speed was quite slow.

Care to comment?
