It snowed in the UK today - around 8 inches in London - and as usual the whole country ground to a halt. No buses were running in London this morning (although a few resumed this afternoon), parts of the tube were suspended, schools were closed, theatres cancelled performances, airport runways shut down, an estimated fifth of the workforce didn't make it to work. I managed to get into central London only to find that the college was closing and I had to turn round and come back home.
It was fun going into town though. The roads were nearly empty and there were just a few people sloshing and sliding about.
All just goes to show THIS COUNTRY CAN'T COPE WITH SNOW! (Or maybe we just use it as an excuse to go out and play?) But on the other hand it is such a rare event - apparently the heaviest snow for 18 or 20 years - and it will probably all be gone soon.
There would be some pics but image uploads are down... Will be back "shortly". How long is shortly? I thought things were improving here.
The pics will come when things get fixed but meanwhile you'll have to truck over to flickr if you want to see them...
